Trip Planned (and booked!) to Chiang Mai!

Take that New Year's Resolution #1!

I'm going to Chiang Mai the first weekend in February with Rachel - yesss!!! The train tickets have even been purchased. Boo-yah.

Here's how I picture us on the train:

It's nice, no?

Also pending plans for a trip to Bali at the end of March where I have my accomodations already paid for (I know... ridiculous) -- and have been invited for a weekend trip to Hong Kong... which I know I probably won't actually be able to go on, but entertaining the idea has been fun.

Love to you all, and now that I'm back on schedule I will also be back posting.

mwah,
Paige

Epic Journey?

So I have heard about some people who have taken trains from London to Bangkok.. and so I'm starting to research the reverse options for fall.

Here's the opposites day version of what the route would look like:

Step 1: London to Moscow by train. Daily departures, 2 nights, from about £160 one-way with sleeper. Spend at least 1 night in Moscow.

Step 2: Moscow to Beijing by Trans-Siberian Railway Two trains a week, 6 nights, from about $450 one-way in 4-bed sleeper. Spend at least 1 night in Beijing.

Step 3: Beijing to Hanoi by train Two trains a week, 2 nights, about $150 or £75 one-way in soft sleeper. Spend at least 1 night in Hanoi.

Step 4: Hanoi to Saigon by train Several trains daily, 2 nights. Why not stop off to see Hue or Hoi An? About $80 or £40 one-way in soft sleeper.

Step 5: Saigon-Phnom Penh by bus Daily, 1 day. Spend at least 1 night in PP.

Step 6: Phnom Penh-Battambang by train or bus, bus to the frontier, train to Bangkok.

.... and then to add a dream to a dream...

There are trans-atlantic freighter boats that take 10-15 days to cross the ocean, and charge about $100 per day for room and board. details.

Any takers???

haha, love to you all,
Paige

No Chiang Mai for this Girl

So definitely made the incorrect guess that I would be able to buy a plane or train ticket to and from Chiang Mai for this weekend today.. ummm... not true.

The plan had been to go up north to hang out with some elephants and see more of the country, but I guess that will have to wait a bit more. Laaaame. So yeah, new year's resolution #1 - Don't procrastinate when purchasing tickets in 2009.

Love to you all, and hope you had fun bringing in the new year!
